Ferdy: *Assembly Required Mascot [RED/GREEN]

This second original designer toy produced by MJC, is one of a series of one-off colorways. This RED/GREEN variant was hand painted my MJC, and premiered at The Asheville Mini Makers Faire in 2019. There is currently no intention to produce any more of these pieces.

ORIGINS:
1993-1997: During his years in art school, MJC continued to analyze the nightmarish/surreal characters that haunted him throughout his childhood, and visited him in his dreams. It was here that he discovered his love of mythology. The next evolution of his characters he referred to as chimeras, as they frequently combined human and animal parts. During this time, a creature by the name of Fire Ferd [v1] was created, which was conceptually a Knight in a giant chess board. Among the many creatures and sculptures produced during this time, Fire Ferd was always the one that everyone came back to as one of the favorites (he was a personal favorite of MJC's as well).

Jumping forward twenty years, artist MJC created *Assembly Required, the Asheville Designer Toy Expo. And when coming up with the persona for the event, Fire Ferd was subsequently adopted as the mascot. A new sculpture was created and produced in resin - simply named Ferdy.

NOTE: Along with a cavalcade of horrors, Fire Ferd appeared along side the Struwwelpeter, in MJC's original screenplay Le Secte Brutale a story of the origins of the bogeyman).
